We’re a local VFW Post that’s deeply committed to our veterans and our community. Every year we deliver real, hands-on support right here in Mount Airy and the surrounding four-county area. Just to give you a quick picture of the impact we make:
• We award up to five $2,000 scholarships to local students heading to college, trade school, or community college.
• We run national VFW youth programs like Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, Teacher of the Year, and Scout of the Year – helping the next generation value service and patriotism.
• We partner with the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company, the Marine Corps League, and town officials to host the annual Mount Airy Veterans Day Ceremony and other patriotic events on Memorial Day, Patriot Day (9/11), and more.
• We hold a yearly Day of Service – a few years ago we built and installed flower and garden boxes for the Lorien Assisted Living home.
• And in just the last twelve months we’ve donated more than $3,000 directly to local causes: $500 to Mount Airy Net to prevent evictions and keep utilities on for families in need, $250 to the Mount Airy Historical Society, $300 to Platoon 22 for veteran and first-responder breakfast meet-ups, $500 to Move United for adaptive climbing programs for people with disabilities, and $1,500 to bring the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall to our area.
All of this is funded almost entirely by community support – which is why our golf tournament is so important. It’s a fun day of golf, great food, and prizes, but its real purpose is to keep these programs going strong for our veterans, kids, and neighbors.

Plus, it’s tax-deductible and feels really good to know you’re directly helping local veterans and families.
