2026 Sagebrush Western Classic Charity Golf
Our Why...
One in three Grand County, Colorado families will be impacted by cancer and the health and emotional toll it takes. Missed work days and costly treatments often wipe out families' hard-earned savings.

Founded in 2012 by caring Grand County community members, Taking Steps for Cancer helps alleviate the financial stress of under resourced Grand County families impacted by cancer. Through its nonprofit partner, Mountain Family Center, a registered 501(c)3, Taking Steps for Cancer provides for essentials that are not covered by insurance—things like travel, lodging and fuel expenses to see treatment specialists, groceries and school supplies, diapers and formula, and cancer screening. In 2025, 63 families were helped to the tune of over $142,000! Patients are allowed $5000 each but at times there are circumstances that require more which is done by a review by a Taking Steps committee of 3. For privacy reasons, Taking Steps for Cancer fund raises and Mountain Family Center administers the cancer funds.

To raise needed funds for these families, Taking Steps for Cancer, along with its generous sponsors, hosts the 2026 Sagebrush Western Classic Charity Golf open - played on August 20th on the gorgeous high altitude mountain links of the Grand Lake Golf Course. Included with this fun charity golf event are green fees/carts, breakfast, live entertainment, stunning views of iconic Mt. Baldy, contests, prizes and an awards reception on the 19th hole.

All tournament proceeds benefit Taking Steps for Cancer which, via their nonprofit partner Mountain Family Center (a registered 501(c)3 in Granby, provides financial assistance each year to resource limited Grand County families affected by cancer.
