Charity pro-ams are a social language in Los Angeles and the desert; municipal leagues keep the game democratic on the coast. Weather windows matter—June gloom on the Pacific, Santa Ana winds inland, summer heat in the Valley—but the courses stay open. For visiting golfers, the state is not one trip. It is a lifetime of distinct trips that happen to share a border.
